Photo Getaway Adventure, Vol. 2

Last year I did something I’ve always wanted to do. I had an idea for a photo story, so I rounded up a couple of models (the fabulous Anna Caroom and Alex Coleman), a few photographers and a writer/designer/location scout. We set out on a weekend long adventure around Oregon to take photos and tell stories. We started in Portland, headed south to Medford, east to Bend, north to The Dalles and back home to Portland.

I had a handful of shots in mind, a few types of locations mapped out, my models had characters developed and had worked with stylists to dial in several wardrobe options. From there, we improvised.

When we got back, my buddy Eric Hillerns and I collaborated to create a print version of the story I shot. With Get! Vol. 1 at the printer, we looked at each other and said, “We had such a great time doing this, why not go for Vol. 2?”

This improvisational style of story development was incredibly invigorating for all of us. The story truly came to life as we shot it. I considered all involved to be active participants. We found perfect locations as we went, put our best ideas into play and came home with a great story. Photo Getaway: The Details

When we started talking about Vol. 2 a few things became clear right away. We wanted a brand new story with fresh characters and a new destination. That destination is from Portland to Reno, Nv and back.

Here are some mood references for the PDX > RENO shoot.

As the story came together I identified several characters we need to cast.

EMMA: 18-22 years old, our hero. She’s tough, cool and up for the adventure. She goes on a journey to Reno to re-connect with her estranged father. On the way she meets several women who impact her future more than she would have imagined.

Emma casting references: to Julia Garner, Maya Hawke, Natalia Dyer

MARTINA: mid-20s to early 30s, European/Asian/African photographer (Spanish, Italian, Japanese, etc). She meets Emma and invites her to go on a cross-country photo adventure with her. They shoot together at the pool and in the Reno desert.

Martina casting references: Martina Matencio, Sonoya Mizuna, Aislinn Derbez, Leticia Wright

ANJALI: late 20s, former dancer. Drops by looking for Emma’s dad. The two women bond in their motel room.

Anjali casting references: Sunita Mani, Jameela Jamil

As with any creative endeavor, it takes a whole team. As we want to tell this story to its fullest here are several positions still available for this adventure:
